A Brief History

Opened in August 1993 by Mike and Elaine "Margot" Meredith, we were originally called Bistro Margot Thomas. The change to just "Margot's" is a tribute to Elaine, who died in 1998, a woman of great humour, passion and strong language. Adrian and Julie joined in March 1996 and purchased the bistro in January 1999. The aims remain the same; to produce fresh food in an informal and friendly setting.
We work with local suppliers as much as possible, using the best produce we can find on a daily basis. If you have any particular requests, then don't be shy, the worst that can happen is we say no!. Vegetarians are catered for, even if you do not see dishes on the menu. We prefer to cook for veggies individually, and if we know your are coming then we can offer you more choice.

Children and babies are always welcome, with half portions at half price. We have a high chair, but not a lot of room for prams.
In May 2002, Julie and Adrian welcomed Becky to the world, with Daniel following in December 2005.We close on Sundays and Mondays throughout the year to allow us to spend time with them.

Most of the paintings in the bistro are for sale, with artists changing from time to time
We operate a no smoking policy as we are so small, but feel free to step outside into Duke Street, Booking is very advisable, as we only have 9 tables and we do not normally resit tables.
We hope you enjoy your time with us. If not, then please tell us so we can do something about it. There is a comments book in the loo if you wish to add your thoughts on what we do.
